Brazil and Global (BnG) Mining Group is primarily engaged in the production and commercialization of manganese ore. The company’s main mining operations of high grade manganese are in the State of Pará, in Northern Brazil. These open pit mines are well supported by the region’s main development hub in the city of Marabá located 487 km from the port of Vila do Conde. All current exports are served by the port of Vila do Conde which is 800 km from the mines and located in the city of Barcarena, on the banks of the Pará River, in Marajó Bay. Open pit is one of the most common mining methods. It starts from the ground level and maintains exposure to the surface throughout the extraction period. The excavation usually has stepped sides to ensure the safety of the miners, and a wide ramp that allows heavy equipment to remove the product efficiently from the site. Open pit mining is the most practical method as the ore bodies of rock are large and close to the surface. Powerful excavators supported by loaders and trucks allow large volumes of rock to move faster, increasing productivity and efficiency. Through mining and exploration the company seeks to identify and secure large mineral districts or provinces and establish long term mining operations, while enhancing the potential for further discoveries. Discovering new ore bodies is an important element in the business strategy of BnG Group.
BnG Mining Group operates and manages world class manganese ore deposits in the states of Pará with a typical ore grade of approximately 46.5% and Bahia where typical low grade high silica material is produced that averages 34%. The shallow open cast mines are located on a large, homogenous ore body which produces a consistent grade of manganese ore with little deviation from product specifications. We are always striving to maximize the potential of our business operations by maintaining our position as the leading low-cost manganese ore producer. The Run of Mine ore (ROM) is processed in primary and secondary crushers and screened to produce lumpy product. A state of the art crushing and screening plant and stockpile management system has been designed with the specific objective of reducing and minimizing fines. Processing begins with the removal of as much waste as possible, often using huge crushers to reduce the size of the material to help recover the valuable minerals from the ore. By processing and refining our raw materials we reduce waste, increase efficiency, drive innovation and support economic growth in the areas where we operate. We work closely with MITRA S.K. and SGS for pretesting our material prior to loading into the vessels to ensure chemical and physical consistency. Our product upholds to the strictest quality control standards.
Crushed material from the mines is loaded into 60 mt trailer trucks and transported to a warehouse located 3 kms from the loading port area. All trucks are weighted on arrival via a weight bridge and the manganese ore sample pretested for Mn%, P% and moisture content and its sizing distribution analysed. The material is then discharged at an allocated area and segregated by quality specifications and size range into separated piles. On arrival at the berth, the master of the vessel and a designated commodity surveyor perform the initial draft survey. The manganese ore is transported by dump trucks from the nearby warehouse to the loading patio, and then unloaded into 25 mt loading box. The vessel uses on board cranes and grabs provided by the port authority to load the material into the holds at an average daily rate of 5,000 mt pwwd sshinc. During loading, SGS/MITRA S.K. surveyors collect sample material from each truck, creating a “sample pool” used to perform chemical and sizing analysis for each hold. Finally, a draft survey is performed prior to the vessel’s departure and the actual net cargo weight is noted on mate’s receipt.
We are one of the leading producers and exporters of bulk manganese ore from Brazil. We participate in local joint ventures and use three local exporters to handle and manage our operations. We charter vessels 10,000 – 55,000 dwt in size to export manganese ore, chips and fines to Europe and the Far East. The production is sold directly with the help of agents and distributors to ferroalloy producers in Spain, France, Slovakia, Georgia, India and China. Our current exports are from Vila do Conde, Aracaju and Salvador Ports, and we will be expanding to Pecem and Aratu in the near future. BnG Group ships on its own and acts as an agent for shipping manganese ore to multiple customers around the world. This highly sought-after product has made BnG’s sales and service a leader in the world marketplace. Our range of expertise covers transportation, logistics, shipping and trading backed by years of experience and a highly talented, culturally diverse team.
